NYIP Unit 1 Photo Projects

Photograph # 1 Using shutter speed to express a sense of motion or speed.

Subject: Man-made landscape
The original photo that was submitted was this photo merged with another image to cover the lower part of the image using Photoshop Elements scene cleaning and merged the pixels. My advisor advised me not to do this especially for this project unless I'm doing course in Photoshop (background was way too overexpose and foreground photo was perfectly exposed.  But he said I still did great job. He said all in all I understand the objective of this project.

Photograph # 2 Using selective focus to make the subject stand out. 
(ISO 100, 50mm, f/2, 1/3200 sec)Subject: GunnerThis was a photo of my son running across the football field. He was looking up because he had a kite on his hand. This  project was interrelated to the 1st since I used a faster shutter speed to freeze the subject. In this case was my boy running.
My advisor made a comment that he likes the composition and suggested the use of dodge tool in the Photoshop to lighten shadows in the image such as on the left face of the subject and then the eyes. But overall I did good job in creating depth of field, and the intensity on the subject's face although was in a tricky lighting situation, and the placement of the image was likable.

Subject: The Stairway to the Water Tower
The original print of the photo was darker than what it shown on my screen. I'd thought I had problem with the color calibration but instead it was the paper profile on my printer.
This was a great depth of field and his favorite of what I'd submitted. He said I did good job in making it black and white to emphasize the grain on the wood. So far, it was his most favorite among the 3.
